Alfonso Palmon
Whitesboro- Alfonso Palmon, 90, of Whitesboro, formerly of Rome, NY, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Health Center. He was born in Rome, NY on December 26, 1924 a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Lago Palmon. Al was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and served his country during World War II as a medic with the 95th Infantry Division. After the war he joined the family business, The Park View Hotel, in Sylvan Beach, NY. In October of 1948, Alfonso married Elizabeth Greer. She passed away on May 9, 1977. On July 14, 1984, he married, Shirley Jones Bell. Al retired from Chicago Pnuematic after thirty years as a machinist and Union Steward. Mr. Palmon was a former member of the Rome American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Utica Sons of Italy.
Surviving besides his wife Shirley, of thirty years, Whitesboro, a son and daughter-in law, Alfonso (Joe) and Liz Palmon, Kingsland, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Joe Petrelli, Rome, step sons; Gary Bell and Steve Bell of Whitesboro, Charles and Marilyn Bell, Colts Neck, NJ, grandchildren; Joe and Beth Petrelli, Denise and Tom Jones, Jonah and Stephanie Palmon, Gabe and Chandra Palmon, Jon and April Palmon, Elizabeth and Matthew Bell and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Christine and Mercedes and brothers Jacquin, Joseph and Manuel.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Staff on Two East at Rome Memorial Hospital, The Grand Rehabilitation and Health Center and Sharon Parker. Their thoughtfulness and devotion to Al has been a comfort to our family.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome and at St. Peter's Church, Rome, at 9:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4-7 p.m.
