Stephen A. D'Amore Jr. Stephen A. D'Amore Jr., 56, of Rome passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. He was born in Potsdam, NY on December 31, 1950, son of Stephen A. and Nieves Alonso DAmore. Steve attended Rome Schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy Class of 1968. He received his bachelor's degree in education in 1972 from Walsh College, Canton, Ohio, and his master's degree from SUNY. A history and Spanish teacher at Whitesboro Senior High School, he retired in 2006 and then began teaching history at Mohawk Valley Community College Rome Campus. Steve was loved by his students. He loved the study of history and government and collected model lighthouses and antique sailing ships. Steve was a member of St. Peters Church. During the 1980s and 1990s, Steve was very active in Rotary, traveling to South America and hosting families in the U.S. He loved to cook Spanish cuisine and had a great flare for entertaining. Surviving are a beloved sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Michael Landau, Rome. Steve was married to Anne Thayer, and loved his step children, Russell and Mariana Thayer, and their special family pet, Lilly. Also surviving are in-laws, Sam and Stella DeSimone, Rome; aunts, Matilda Barone, Ohio, Rosemary DAmore, Rome, Pilar Benito, Ohio; and several special cousins. He also leaves behind his dear Godchildren, Pamela Bucci and Heather Aquino; and close friend and colleague, Tom Aquino, Rome. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Nieves and Stephen DAmore, Sr. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Potluri and Drs. Gullo and Cherney of Syracuse. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peters Church where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905.
