Obituary of Ronald F. Gladwin
Ronald F. Gladwin, 82, of Rome, NY, entered eternal rest after a long illness, on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Rome Health. He was born in Utica, NY, on November 2, 1938, son of the late Francis and Loretta Ruskey Gladwin. He was also predeceased by his in-laws Joe and Betty Yozzo. Ron was a 1956 graduate of Whitesboro High School. Ron and Barb (Yozzo) were married on July 7, 1974. Years later, Father Paul Drobin, officiated the renewal of their vows.
Ron retired from US Airways after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Stanwix Veterans Men’s Club, American Ukrainian Club and the American Legion of Oriskany, Post 1448. Ron was a semi-pro football player for six years, playing for Valley teams. He loved outdoor activities, especially gardening, camping, fishing, and golf. Ron loved playing pitch and held the title of “Coast to Coast Champ”. He enjoyed cooking and specialized as Barb’s sous chef. He was a busy man, but always found time for a cold beer on a hot day.
Family was very important to him. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, and his children, Cindy (Mike) Horan, Maine, NY; Kelly Hartley, Ilion, NY; Rich (Kaye) Gladwin, Huntsville, AL; Jeff (Dawn) Gladwin, West Henrietta, NY; 8 grandchildren: Kristin, Kelsey and Katelyn Horan, DJ and Matt Ralbovsky, Gabrielle Hartley, Micah Gladwin, and Bridgett Stallings and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Arlene (Mike) Winslow; brother, Chick (Aggie) Gladwin; sisters-in-law, Susan (John) Sugar and Chrissy (Scott) Breault and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to all of his closest friends, neighbors, and health care professionals who were there for him during his battle and to the ICU medical staff at Rome Health during his final hours.
