Roy J. Campanaro, 65, of Rome, also known as "Big Roy" passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born in Rome, NY, on October 10, 1955, son of the late John and Angeline Calandra Campanaro.
Roy was happiest when he was working. He worked for the City of Rome Water Department for many years until he started his own heavy equipment business. Roy enjoyed his time with his family and friends, especially the times at the Franklin Hotel. He also enjoyed hunting and coffee with the guys. Roy had the biggest heart and was a friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
Roy is survived by his wife, Christy Colangelo Campanaro, his daughter, Charissa (Matt) Taylor, a son, Brandon Colangelo (Sabrina Glode), grandchildren; Zachary, Sophia, Mia and Ariel. Also surviving are his sister, Palma "Pam" and Jasper "Jay" Calandra, nephews; Jasper "JJ" (Melissa Tibbits), Joseph "Joey" (Karrah DiMaggio) and Jennifer, and great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind special neighbors, Chia and Auntie Carriero who always looked out for him. Roy was predeceased by his parents, John and Angeline (Calandra) Campanaro, two brothers; John and David Campanaro and his best friends, Billy Rizio and Phil Vescio.
The family would like to thank Dr. Emile Wassel and the amazing staff at St. Luke's Hospital, Alden Calder Wing, 1st Floor.
Services will be private. At Roy's request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
