Obituary of Marietta B. Whaley

Marietta B. Taplin Wood Whaley, 95, of Rome, passed into the loving arms of her heavenly Father on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Rome Memorial Hospital RHCF. Marietta was born on February 8, 1926, in Richland, NY, daughter of the late Wyon and Doris Wheeler Taplin.
Marietta married the late, Edmund Wood, of Pulaski NY, and had three daughters and two sons. Marietta leaves behind daughter's; Elaine (Darrel) Greany, Gail (Robert) Rizio and Linda Wood, all of Rome NY, eight grandchildren, over forty great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, all of Rome, NY. Also surviving is a brother, Francis (Sharon) Taplin, a sister, Varda Teska, all of Pulaski, NY and a sister-in-law, Mona Taplin, of Arizona, several nieces and nephews, a step-daughter, Patty Hall and family, of Farnharn, VA.
Marietta was predeceased in death by her two sons David and Nicholas Wood, two grandsons, Ricky Underwood and Paul Lipphardt, two sisters, Wyona Ballon and Lavania Johnson, three brothers, Wyon, James and Vardon Taplin.
Marietta moved to Newark California in 1974 and went to work at Raychem Corporation in Redwood City. After retirement she volunteered as a teacher's aide. She was a very artistic and creative lady and enjoyed oil painting, quilting, making rag dolls and writing poetry. Marietta loved her feline and canine grandbabies. She was a member of the Liberty Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Modesto California and loved Pastor Rick Howard and her church family
In 1978 Marietta married her childhood sweetheart, Dayton Whaley and had a very blessed second marriage of 17 years before he passed away in 1995.
Marietta moved back to Rome, NY in 2015. She loved the Lord and read her Bible every evening until she lost her eyesight then she listened to audio Bible until she lost her hearing. Marietta was a giving and caring person and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be missed on earth but welcomed home in heaven.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Mark Moriarty and Dr. Patricia Hart. God bless the caring and compassionate staff at Rome Memorial Hospital RHCF who took such loving care of Marietta.
