Obituary of Mary Lou C. DeRuby

Mary Lou C. DeRuby, 70, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Abraham House – Rome. She was born in Rome, NY, on October 13, 1949, daughter of the late Philip and Agatina (Ida) Squadrito Carambia. Mary Lou attended Rome City Schools. She was a former employee of Rite Aid Distribution Center, in Rome. Mary Lou was strong in her Christian faith, which she instilled in her children. Mary Lou enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as well as gardening and bird watching. She was an avid cook and baker, and especially enjoyed making Christmas cookies for her family and friends. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kimberly DeRuby, Oneida, Michael DeRuby, Rome, and a daughter, Melissa DeRuby, Rome, two beloved grandchildren; Rachel and Jacob DeRuby. Also surviving are a brother Vito Carambia, Blossvale, sister-in-law Robin Carambia and several loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Philip J. "P.J." Carambia, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Sarah "Sally" Carambia. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend is required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
