Obituary of Gloria O. Carr

Gloria O. Carr, of Rome, NY passed away, Thursday, January 9th, 2020. Born in Rome, NY on January 28, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Marie McSweeney Owens. She graduated from St Aloyious Academy (SAA) and attended LeMoyne College. On February 19, 1955 she married Conse C. Vecchio who pre-deceased her in 1966. On February 26, 1972, she was united in marriage to Bernard H. Carr, and they shared a blessed union of 48 years.
Gloria was currently employed as an accountant at the Kim M. Cook CPA firm for 19 years and had previously served as the Comptroller at Ardak Corporation, and the co-owner of B&J Auto Sales, Inc. and Conse C. Vecchio Construction Company.
Gloria was the foundation of our family and always put her family first. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and our lives will never be the same without her. She loved to play cards and Scrabble with Bernie and was an avid sports fan fervently cheering for her beloved NY Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and her grandchildren's sporting events.
Surviving besides her loving husband, Bernard, are three children, Conse Vecchio (Kelly), Kim M. Cook (David), and Christine Vecchio-Flaim (Timothy), one stepson, Bernard Carr; one sister, Rosemary Guy, one brother Neil (Bridget) Owens, two sister in-laws, Grace (Richard) Bottini and Shirley (John) Smith, two brother in-laws, Robert Carr and Roger (Bud) Carr, nine grandchildren, Conse (Charlie) (Barb) Vecchio, Joseph (Susie) Vecchio, Sara Vecchio, Matthew Vecchio, Kevin Ringueberg, Christopher (Jennifer) Cook, Gregory (Bobbi) Cook, and Jessica Flaim, nine great-grandchildren, Sophia, Madison, Lucas, Dylan, Noah, Luna, Jackson, Madilyn and Emilia, many nieces and nephews, many friends and her very dear friend Suzanne Long.
Gloria was pre-deceased by her husband, Conse Vecchio, parents, Fred E. and Marie Owens, a sister Shirley Owens Delmerico, sister in-law, Rosetta Vecchio Bottini, four brother in-laws, Fred Guy, Frank Delmerico, Ed Carr and Benard Bottini.
Gloria's family would like to give thanks to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care and the Abraham House, Rome for their outstanding level of care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Rome NY on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Church between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 12:00, noon, prior to the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Abraham House, 417 N. Washington St. Rome, NY 13440 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
