Obituary of David J. Jackson, Sr.

David J. Jackson, Sr., 91, of Rome, passed away, Friday, October 25, 2019, at, Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Thomas, Idaho, on December 30, 1927, son of the late James and Pearl Cameron Jackson. Dave served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On June 7, 1952 he married Jennie Fontana in St. John the Baptist Church. She passed away on December 24, 2008. Dave retired from Griffiss Air Force Base, Communications Security, in 1984. He was also former owner of York Liquors in Rome. Dave was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Susan M. Jackson, and a son-in-law, Michael Sobrado, both of Rome, a son David J. Jackson, Jr., and his wife, Annette Alvarez Jackson, Rome, grandchildren; Brian Loiodice and fiancee Melissa Kroll, Michael Loiodice and fiancee Desiree Aiello, Emily Jackson and fiancé Derek Jasak, and Zachary Jackson and his girlfriend, Ashley Jamison, John Sobrado, great-grandchildren; Lily Loiodice, Logan Jasak and Hunter Kroll and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jennie, six brothers; Albert, Roy, George, Boyd, Kenneth and Luane, four sisters; Eva, Ruby, Ellen, and Ethel. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital 2 North Nursing Staff, Dr. Logan, Dave's caregiver, Jeanette George, the staff of Presbyterian Adult and Medical Day Care Program, especially, Paul the bus driver. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 10:15 a.m., from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., and at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Abe Esper. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
