Obituary of Michael T. Smith

Michael T. Smith, 72, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born to Thelma Smith in Syracuse, NY, on October 19, 1947. Mike was a life-long learner and always strived for personal knowledge and education throughout his entire life. He would be just as comfortable talking about politics as he would talking about the Yankees. Mike was a lover of music, guitars, sports, chemistry, "problem solving", but most importantly, his family. Spending most of his childhood in Rome, he attended school in the Rome City School District. On July 19, 1969 he married the love of his life, Hildegard "Sue" Beer. He was a machinist by trade and former co-owner and operator of Central Precision Machine Shop, Rome. Mike was also formerly employed at Pettibone Corp. and Bartell Machinery. Surviving are his wife, Sue, his son, Eric Smith of Rome, his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" and Kevin Healy of Oneida, and his two granddaughters (his angels), Madeline and Abigail Healy, both of Oneida. Also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Edward Coluccio of Rome, in-laws Edward and Alice Beer and Robert Beer, all of Rome and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma and his brother, Edward L. Smith III. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 2-5 p.m. Private burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
