Obituary of Thelma M. Dekin Root

Thelma M. Dekin Root, 81, of Rome, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019. She was born in Rome, NY, on May 13, 1938, daughter of the late Robert and Eleanor Luchterhand Mason. Thelma married Guy Dekin who passed away in 2002. In 2006 she married Marvin F. Root. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Thelma retired as a Supervisor from Rome DDSO, where she had been employed for thirty years.

Surviving besides her husband, Marvin, are a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and (Laura) Dekin, Camden, two daughters and a son-in-law; Brenda and Thomas Hoban, Kirkville, NY, and Bonnie Dekin, Rome, four step-sons; Gary (Linda) Dekin, SC, Robert (Sue) Dekin, Clinton, James (Pat) Armstrong, Taberg, Guy (Sharon) Dekin, FL, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Mason, Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a step-son, Donald Dekin, and a sister, Betty Green.

Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 4-7 p.m., with services at 7:00 p.m., where relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at Kirkland Cemetery, Clark MIlls, NY.
