Amedeo Beddia

Amedeo Beddia, 95, of Rome, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Rome Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side.  He was born in Manhattan, NY, on September 19, 1922, son of the late Giuseppe Antonio and Francesca Ballaro Beddia.  On September 26, 1948, he married Teresa in Sicily, Italy.  Amedeo retired from the City of Rome Department of Public Works.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.  Amedeo had a great passion for gardening which he loved throughout his lifetime.

Amedeo was born in New York City.  His parents returned to Sicily with him.  Amedeo and Teresa were married in Sicily and blessed with four children; Joseph, Santo, Francesca, and Josie.  After they were born, Amedeo decided to emigrate to the United States because he was a citizen.  He came alone on the “Saturnea” December 17, 1957, through Ellis Island and came directly to Rome.  Amedeo worked at various jobs until he saved enough money to send for his wife and four children.  They arrived through New York City, July 13, 1960, on the liner “Atrladice”.  They were met by Amedeo and came to Rome where Amedeo had a home ready for them.  Three years later, in 1963, they were blessed with a fifth child, a daughter, Maria.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law; Joseph Anthony and Deborah Ann Beddia, Santo Beddia, three daughters and two sons-in-law; Francesca and Giuseppe Libertella, Josie Beddia, Maria and Wayne Carrick all of Rome, twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by three sisters; Maria, Onofria and Vincenza.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital and Colonial Park for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 10:15 a.m., from the Nicholas J.
