Obituary of Peter L. Mecca

Peter L. Mecca, 95, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Syracuse Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Rome, NY, on June 29, 1922, son of the late Sebastian and Maria Carmella D'Andrea Mecca. Pete attended Rome Schools. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Pete was married to former Virginia Ann Piazza, who passed away in 1974. In 1981 Pete retired from Griffiss Air Force Base where he worked in the warehouse. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, HP Smith Post #24 American Legion, VFW Rome Post #2246 and Rome DAV. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Michael Fazel, Rome, a granddaughter, Christine and her husband, Matthew Spellicy, Rome, a great granddaughter, Lucille Rose and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers; Daniel, Conio, and Frank Mecca, four sisters; Nora Mecca, JoAnn Wagner, Lucy Domenico, and Florence Ferrare. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. Abe Esper officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J.
