Obituary of Della N. Serra

Della N. Serra Della N. Serra, 86, of Rome Towers, passed away Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. She was born March 25, 1923 in Rome, NY, a daughter of the late Angelo and Donna (Summa) Glasso. She was a 1941 graduate of Rome Free Academy. Della was employed for several years in the Procurement Division of ROAMA at Griffiss AFB. She married Thomas G. Serra November 29, 1941 at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome. He passed away October 7, 2004. Mrs. Serra was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at Bethany Gardens, a member of the South Rome Senior Citizens, the Thursday afternoon Seniors at Rome Towers, the AARP Club of Rome and the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens. Della is survived by her daughters, Carol (John) Fletcher of Berryville, VA, and Joyce (Michael) Lopushinsky of Rome; a sister-in- law, Katherine Reynolds; and several nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandmother of Leah (Tony) Davis, Craig (Suzanne) Fletcher, Lisa (Michael) Stamboly, Amie (Roger) Orzell and Michael (Melissa) Lopushinsky; and the great-grandmother of Camryn and Sydney Stamboly, Fletcher and Parker Davis, and Morgan, Aubrey and Chase Fletcher. Della was predeceased by her husband Thomas, sisters, Nellie Glasso and Rose Orsini, and brothers Frank, August, Salvatore, and William Glasso. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. where relatives and friends are invited attend. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, N.Y. 13502 or St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E.
