Please share a memory of Violet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Violet Dorothy Diliberto Mrs. Violet Dorothy Diliberto, 87, of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the home of her son, Michael, in Leesburg, VA. "Dot", as she was known to friends and family, was born in Utica, NY on October 10, 1929, daughter of the late Minnie Miller Bauerle. She was one of four Sisters who remained very close to one another throughout their lives. Dot was known for her kindness toward all and for her determination when faced with any challenge. Those who knew her well will always remember her quiet strength and tenacious spirit (and the wonderful pizzelles she made and shared every Christmas). Dot graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1946. On September 15, 1951, she married Benedetto S. Diliberto at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rome, NY. Dot and Ben celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary shortly before his passing last October. Dot's greatest joy in life was her family, she was especially looking forward to attending the wedding of her granddaughter Brittany this coming October. She will be greatly missed on that special occasion. Dot played an active role in her community. When her sons were young, she was active in the PTA at the former Harvey Alter School and then served as President of the PTA at Columbus Elementary School, while also participating with Cub Scouts Pack 2 as Den Mother and Boy Scout Troop 27 on the Troop Committee. Dot also provided support for the RFA Boys Football and Basketball teams where her son Bennie served as Team Manager in the early 70's. Later in life, as a breast cancer survivor she was active with Nettie's Gals Relay for Life Team. Dot retired from MWR at the former Griffiss Air Force Base. Dot is survived by her son Michael Diliberto and his wife Pauline Clark of Leesburg, VA; her granddaughter, Brittany Diliberto of Arlington, VA; granddaughter Ashley Rivero of Helena, MT; grandson Nicholas Rivero of Arlington, VA; sister Betty Maichak of Oklahoma; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Benedetto, her eldest son, Bennie S. Diliberto, sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Joe Magliocca, Frances and Tom Dewey, Marion and Don Phillips, and brother-in-law Mitchell Maichak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rome, NY, with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J.
