My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the extended Tamburino family. Gene was a long time friend of the Town of Deerfield Youth Program before his departure. I personally knew him and some of the family. His legacy lives on in his family, in Rome, and especially in the Skate-A-While rink where we have enjoyed many wonderful hours. May his fond memories console you through this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to Gene Tamburio's family. Gene was one of my heroes. Many years I prayed for someone to open up a roller skating rink in Rome. Finally in 1977 Gene opened up Skate-A-While. The rink was a great success and a asset to city of Rome.
Gene was a tough business man he but was also generous, funny and down to earth, He once told me( when it came to his roller rink )"Ted no is privileged here" it took me awhile to fully understand what he was trying to tell me, but I think he was saying everybody must follow the rules when it came to his skating rink. This man was a local legend. He was also a great roller skater. I will always cherish the wonderful times I had at Skate-A-While year after year. Sorry for his family a great man,a innovator who fought and worked hard for a dream, And that dream was Skate-Awhile the best roller-skating rink in the world. Ted Thompson Rochester, NY

To Gene's family I send prayers of comfort. Gene was a great guy !!! He gave the children of Rome the advantage of Roller Skating, which is sadly becoming a lost activity, My children always enjoyed going there and seeing Gene on a regular basis all their growing up years right from Toddler on up. I always got a nice cup of coffee and friendly chat with Gene. I've missed him since my children grew up, and will always appreciate knowing him. God Bless

Gene you will be greatly missed. I remember many times you letting me come skate at skate-a- while when I was a little girl. Gene and shorty are the 2 that taught me to skate. You were always a good man to us children in the neighborhood. I remember looking for you every day on my way home from school because you always had a treat. lol. 1 day I came walking home from school and you had the best gift ever. I remember you saying I don't have any candy our him for you today Annabelle but there is something on the steps for you, a brand new pair of white skates with pink wheels and pink pom-poms. After growing up and having my own children I would take my girls there and they would always ask me mom why does he call you and us those silly names that's not our names lol. I am now a grandmother and was looking forward to bringing my grandsons there so I do hope his family continues to keep skate a while open. It will never be the same without him but still have many memories there and want to make more memories there with my grandsons. So sorry for your loss. He was one of a kind. Rest in peace Gene till we meet again. Love Tammy (annabelle)
