Alvera (Stolo) Prather
Alvera Prather, 81 years of age of Rome, NY passed away with her loving family by her side on September 16, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, New York. She was born in Oriskany, NY on April 6, 1935 the daughter of the late James and Alvira Cervo Stolo.
Alvera was educated in Rome schools and graduated from cosmetology school in 1963. For several years, she cared for John Cahill, until his death. As the wife of Karl A. Prather, they enjoyed a union of 32 years until his death in 2005.
"Meme's" greatest passion and joy was the love she gave and received from her family. She was also an avid reader and highly skilled in at home TV shopping. As the self-appointed Queen of our family, she loved and nurtured us through her amazing cooking and baking talents which she shared with all those she loved.
Surviving are a daughter, Lucy "Cessy" Stoddard, Westmoreland, NY, granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband, Ron Artz of Westmoreland, their children Corderro, Angelo, and Nicolina, granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Jeffrey Belisle, New Hartford, and their son Ray, grandson and his wife, Sheldon and Mary K. Stoddard, Whitesboro, and their three children; Geovanni, Ashton, and Joseph. Also surviving are five sisters and two brothers- in- law, Doloretta Austin, Florida, Marie Lawless, Florida, Violet Finster, Gloria and Bob Budlong, Donna and Ray Adams all of Rome, NY, three brothers, James Stolo, Tennessee, Robert W. Stolo and his fiancé, Elizabeth Kennedy, Ilion, NY, Ronald W. Stolo, Rome NY, a sister-in-law, Patricia Stolo, Florida, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great, nieces and nephews and cousins. Alvera also shared a special bond with Bianca Taylor. Alvera was predeceased by her husband, a son Edward A. Szczyt, two brothers; Anthony and his wife Phyllis Stolo and Joseph Stolo, a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Rosario Gualtieri, a brother, Joseph Stolo, a sister, Lucille Stolo, sisters-in-law; Suzanne Stolo, Robin E. Mills, and Vicki Stolo, brothers-in-law; Donald Lawless, Bert Austin, Paul Finster, and son-in-law, Ray A. Stoddard.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome. Friends may call at the funeral home at 7751 Merrick Rd., on Monday from 4 – 7 PM. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
