Obituary of Salvatore "Sal" J. Ragonese

Salvatore J. "Sal" Ragonese Mr. Salvatore J. "Sal" Ragonese, 82, of Rome passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at The Grand at Rome with his family by his side. Born in Rome, NY on March 9, 1934, Sal was the son of the late Rosario and Eleanor (Cicero) Ragonese. He was raised and educated in Rome where he attended local schools. Mr. Ragonese was a proud U. S. Army Veteran. On November 3, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Barbara R. Macri. Mr. Ragonese retired from the Rome School System in 1999 after over twenty five years of service. At one time Sal was an avid hunter and enjoyed walking. He had a great love for his family and friends; he found much joy and happiness from talking, laughing and just spending time with them. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; a twin brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Jean Ragonese of Rome; and a sister, Ann Garrett of PA. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and a sister-in-law, Marie D'Ambrosi of Rome. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Carl Laporta, Jean and Tony Saccoia, Rose and Richard Smith, Josephine and John DeMario, Angie and Roy Musscarella, and Mary and Louis Ruelas. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at 10:15 a.m., from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Road and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
