Obituary of Mary R. Atkinson

Mary "Dolly" R. Atkinson Mary "Dolly" R. Atkinson, 87, of Rome, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on March 29, 1921, daughter of the late Steve and Victoria Gratch Recchio. Mary graduated from Rome Free Academy, class of 1939. On March 6, 1943 she married Jesse M. Atkinson in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away October 29, 1998. Mrs. Atkinson retired from Griffiss Airforce Base. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, and former member of Rome Twigs Rosewood. Mary was also a former Girl Scout troop leader and belonged to several bowling and golfing leagues. Surviving are: three daughters and sons-in law, Jessica and Donald Snyder, Brewerton, N.Y. Stella and Don McKillip, Ripley, N.Y. Roberta and Scott Brockway, Ilion, N.Y. A son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Lynda Atkinson, Ilion N.Y.; Thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are Two Sisters and a brother-in-law Ann and Peter Curtice; Mich. Augustina Augie Aquillo, Rome. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Archie and Vigina Recchio and Sandy and Marion Recchio, all of Rome; and several nieces,nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Mary Crye, and three sisters, Carmella Russell, Antoinete Barbato and Lottie Mercurio; a brother Frank Recchio. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday At 9:45 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc. 218 W. Court St. and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant House Attn: Sister Patricia A.
