Amelia Millie Fiore Emma
Amelia "Millie" Fiore Emma, 84, of 617 Floyd Ave., entered into rest on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility. She was born on January 29, 1924 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late Nazzereno and Angeline Appolania Fiore. On November 4, 1939, in St. John the Baptist Church, she was united in marriage to Salvatore Emma. He passed away August 19, 1995. Millie was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center, and enjoyed spending time cooking and baking.
Surviving are her two beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Bernard Bird, Westmoreland, and Shirley and Donald Harrington, Taberg; her beloved grandchildren; Charles Leland Bates and wife Carol, Westmoreland, Patti Lynn and Scott Pilat, Buffalo, NY and Christine Anne Bird, Westmoreland; her beloved great-grandchildren; Brittany Marie and Jessica Lee Bates, Westmoreland; Jonathan Scott and Kennedy Oliva Pilat, Buffalo, NY. Also surviving are her beloved brother and sister-in-law Ferdinand Slim and Mary Fiore, Rome; sisters, Yolanda Spaziani, Rome, Dolly Fiore Thayer, CA, Ann Thayer, CA, Connie Fiore Malquist, OR; her beloved nieces and nephews; special niece, Jeanette Spaziani Redd, Rome, and special nephews, Grant Thayer, CA and John Spaziani, Rome; sisters-in-law, Arlene Emma, Bridget Carletta, Olympia Carletta, Grace Madonia, Eloise Carletta, Nina Pettinelli, all of Rome, Mary Joseph, Josephine and Francis Spring, Utica, and Mary Carletta, Canastota; brothers-in-law, Ronald Sanders, CA, Tony LaGrieco, Rome, Angelo and wife Louise Carletta, Westmoreland; cousins, Frank Martinez, Josephine Josie Fragapane and Louise Marcoccia. She cherished the friendship of the late Father John M. Wood of St. John the Baptist Church, and Father John F. Hogan Jr. and Father Fred Daley, who were so caring, and Sister Mary Frances, and special friends, Sophia and Walter Zwitch, Antonette Toni Blaich and Mary Ann Clark.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Salvatore Emma, parents Nazzereno and Angeline Fiore, brothers-in-law, James Spaziani, Warren Thayer, James Emma, Mike Carletta, Salvatore Carletta, Charles Carletta and Louis Carletta, sisters-in-law Rose Sanders and Lillian La Grieco, and special nieces Angela (Fiore) Zucker and Brenda Slane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility for their care and concern for Millie. Also, a special thank you to her doctors, Elif N. Erim and Richard J. Sullivan, and to Nicholas and Joanne Bush for their care and concern.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9 AM at St. John the Baptist Church where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc. 218 W. Court St., Rome.
