What a great teacher. I had Ms. Scuderi at Strough in the mid 1960's. One of my fondest memories was the Spanish play that our class put on. She was extremely nervous because we were all goofing around during rehearsal, but we pulled it off. I now live in Ohio and I have retired from teaching. She was one of my inspirations to go into the field. I will always remember her. May God Bless!

I send my thoughts and prayers to all the family at such a sad time at the loss of such a great educator. She was one of the best teachers I had in my years in the Rome School system. Her kindness, gentleness and quiet ways made her a very unusual and gifted teacher.. to saya nothing of her patience. SHE WAS LOVED BY MANY STUDENTS

Miss Scuderi was my first year Spanish teacher (1964-1965) at Laurel St. JHS and her enthusiasm for teaching young people - her professionalism - was a model I have used over the years in my career in education here in Arizona. She touched many lives; she truly touched mine.

Miss Scuderi was one of the greatest inspirations of my life. What I learned from her in Spanish class between 1974 and 1977 has guided me both professionally and personally for the past three decades. I will always remember her generosity, her warmth, and her guidance. (I still own the hallway passes she wrote for me when I visited her before school every morning!) I treasure the ability to pass on to my students what Miss Scuderi taught me, and I will keep her forever in my heart.

Miss Scuderi, my first Spanish teacher was the most incredibly kind, gentle person. She inspired me to major in Spanish and become a teacher also. Although I left that career long ago, I use my Spanish skills every day of my life, having married into a Latino family and traveling the world, living in Mexico and now in San Antonio, a truly bilingual American city. I can still see her acting out the dialogues in class, smiling, laughing and always whispering to us a hint of the correct answer when called upon to speak. Even back in the late 60's she was constantly using lozenges to soothe her over worked throat and vocal chords. Anyone who's taught Level I foreign language knows the toll it can take on your voice. She never ever made anyone feel badly about their progress. She always had a kind word and a smile for every student. I cannot express the gratitude I have to Mary Scuderi in words, but I did call her when visiting my family in Rome about five years ago and told her of the positive impression she made on me and my decision to study foreign languages. She was truly and angel in this world and I had the pleasure of learning from her. May she rest in eternal peace.

I was an 8th grader at Strough Jr. High around 1979-1980 when Miss Scuderi was a beloved Spanish teacher to many of us. I remember her boundless energy, and enthusiatic and effective teaching style. She would always wear mini-skirts just above the knee and you would hear the continuous click-click-click of her high heels as she would pull out poster after poster of verb endings for all of us to "sing"as she quickly moved around the room. Everything I learned in her Spanish class became engrained in my head. As my own daughter, in her first year of Spanish this year, learns her Spanish, I will teach her the songs Miss Scuderi taught us. I remember Miss Scuderi's refusal to join the teachers' strike, because she was so dedicated to her students.
I'm sure she is in heaven now finding students to share her love of Spanish with.

Miss Scuderi was a warm & caring person who enjoyed sharing her love of Spanish and dolls! I loved looking at her beautiful collection & listening to her stories about teaching at Strough with my deceased mother. She was generous & her quiet countenance was authoritative yet gentle— the perfect teacher. I still think about her often….
