Gordon F. Sherman Sr.
Gordon F. Sherman, Sr.,82, of Rome,passed away Thursday,March 13,2008 at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome,N.Y. on November 25,1925,son of the late Vernon C. and Elsie McMullen Sherman. Gordon attended Rome Schools. He served with the U.S. Army in both World War II and the Korean War as a decorated combat veteran. Sgt. Sherman received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal,Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars,and the Distinguished Unit Citation. On September 24,1949, he married DeloresDee Natalie in St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Sherman retired from Revere Rome Manufacturing after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his Wife,Delores Dee are a son, Dr. Gordon Sherman,Jr., Princeton, New Jersey,; two beloved granddaughters, Laura Sherman, Washington D.C., Emily Sherman,Princeton, N.J.; two sisters and brother-in-law,Shirley and Gabe Sbarglia,and Beverly Robinson,all of Rome;a brother and sister-in-law, William and Ursula Sherman,Cheyenne,Wyo; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Nancee Sherman, and brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church where friends and relatives are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society,100 Lomond Court, Utica, N.Y.13502.
