Michael A. Cataldo
Michael A. Cataldo, 55, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Portland, Maine. Mike was born November 7, 1951 in Rome, NY, the son of Angelo P. and Rita S. Cataldo. He was a 1970 graduate of Rome Free Academy. Michael served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, specializing in Radar Tower/Electrical Technology, honorably discharged in 1978. He received a Bachelor of Technology degree in 1980 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer/Information in 1984. Mike furthered his education throughout his life. He was married to Debbie Livingston, with whom he had two loving daughters. On August 8, 1987, Michael was united in marriage to Catherine VandenBosch, a loving union of twenty years which was enriched by the birth of their two loving daughters.
Michael served as a Vice President of Production for Cataldo Brothers and Sons, Inc., until 2003. He was founder of Eastern Labs in 1985 and inventor of specialized devices for the construction industry. Recently, he was employed by Amphenol Corporation in Sydney, NY, where he designed and built test equipment for Aerospace Technology.
Mike was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. His passion for boating was a constant joy in his life that he shared with his family and friends at every opportunity. Mikes time on the water and trips he took were always a highlight and special time in his life.
Surviving are his loving wife, Cathy Cataldo, beloved daughters, Nicole, Natalie, Kaitlin and Kelsey Cataldo, all of Rome; three cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Samantha Cataldo and Olivia Pianka; a son-in-law, Scott Pianka, of Rome; his father, Angelo P. Cataldo, of Rome; sisters, Dee DeGennaro and Donald Jamison of Freehold, NJ, Toni DeMeo of Utica, Christine and husband Mike Burth of Verona; brothers, Peter Cataldo and wife Sandy, of Rome, and Philip Cataldo and wife Shelley, of Castaic, CA; mother-in-law, Diane VandenBosch; brother-in-law, John VandenBosch; sister-in-law, Sharon Mortis, of Rome; together with aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was also blessed with many friends with whom he held always in his heart. He was predeceased by his mother, Rita, infant brother, Thomas, and father-in-law, Jack.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Michael made a decision to become an organ donor and his family takes comfort in the fact that his life continues to live on in others beyond his untimely death. In lieu of flowers, please consider the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Court, Utica, N.Y. 13502..Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
