Margaret L. , (Gattari) DeMare
Margaret Gattari DeMare, a life long Rome resident, completed her earthly journey July 18,2007. She was born June 4, 1915, the second in a family of three children to Elena Carrada Gattari and Felix Gattari. Margie attended Rome Schools. She was employed as a store manager for the former Carls Drug Company and enjoyed many years of customer service. She was affectionately known as Marg the Sarge by family and friends.
On October 21, 1939 she was united in marriage to Thomas Demare , a local businessman and realtor who passed away March 8, 1989.
In past times, she enjoyed her church participation, bowling, gardening and cooking for her family and friends.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Dr. Patricia DeMatteo and husband Joseph (Spike), Rome; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. and Patty DeMare, West Palm Beach, Fla; James P. and Antoinette DeMare, Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Todd M. DeMatteo, Naples, FL, Geselle D. Sadler and husband Richard, Argyle, Texas, Elaina D. Adolfi and husband Richard, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Leann M. Till and husband Mark, Bonita Springs, FL., Jim DeMare and wife Laura, New York City, Danille DeMare, Louisville, KY., Jenna DeMare, New York City; nine great grandchildren, Wyatt and Spencer Adolfi, Ian and Dylan Sadler, Isabella, A.J., and Sophia Till, Luca and Marcus DeMare. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law , James and Clara Gattari, Anaheim, CA., a special care giver, Roxanne DeAngelis; and several nieces and nephews, including two devoted nieces, Carla Till and Sister Rosaire DeMare; cousins, and great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Anne Panasci.
Margie loved her family and she will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of celebration on Saturday at 10 am at St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. The family will be receiving friends at the church following the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Welcome Hall Community Center, 413 E. Dominick St. Rome, NY or St. Pauls Church
