Obituary of James Nardozza

James Nardozza, 88, of Syracuse and formerly of Rome, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007. He was born in Rome, NY on February 26, 1919, son of the late Nicola and Maria Carmella (Guglielmo) Nardozza. Jim graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1937 and entered the U.S. Army in 1941. He was assigned to Camp Upton, NY in the 8th Division and 28th Infantry in Company G. After basic training Jim was sent to the 80th Division in Camp Forest, TN, where he eventually became a Staff Sergeant in the 318th Infantry, Company A. During a short leave, he married Louise Volpe on September 23, 1943 in St. John the Baptist Church. Jim served in Northern France for three months in 1944 before he was injured and after rehabilitation in England, he returned to America with a Purple Heart, two clusters and a bronze star for his service. He then was employed by Revere Copper and Brass where he remained for 38 years. In 2001, Jim and Louise moved to North Syracuse to be closer to their family. Jim was a dedicated family man who enjoyed bowling, bocce, and cards with his family and friends. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and its Holy Name Society, VFW Rome Post 2246, DAV, Galliano and Toccolana Clubs. Jim is survived by his wife, Louise, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Aurora and Raymond Wilson, Liverpool, N.Y.; daughter, Lorraine Henry, N. Syracuse, NY and her companion, Andrew Davis, who assisted in Jims care; granddaughters, Jennifer Radcliffe and her husband, Andrew, Brenda Henrey, Christina Wilson, and Patricia Wilson. Jim was also the very proud great grandfather of Kyle and Alexander Radcliffe. Also surviving are a sister, Laura Lupica, Rome; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Jean Nardozza, Dallas, Texas, Vito and Frances Nardozza, Sunrise, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Syracuse Home Association Avtivities Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
