Joseph A. Zigrino
Joseph August Zigrino, better known as Ziggy, went home to be with the lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. He was born November 21, 1924 to Louisa and Angelo Zigrino. Ziggy attended Rome schools and graduated from the Ber-Wyn School of Cosmetology in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a Sergeant in the Army/Air Force during World War II, serving in France and Germany. He returned home in 1952 and married Beverly Ann Semo. Together they raised seven children, Darlene, Eddie, Joe, Fran, John (wife Cindy), Harry and Robin. Ziggy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always had a beautiful sense of humor and was a man of faith. Ziggy attended St. John the Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was employed at Revere Copper and Brass for 42 years where he served as President of the Union. Ziggy was a sports enthusiast- playing football for St. Anthony's in Utica; coaching Little League for many years and bowling. His favorite sport was Bocce, in which he and his wife won two Rome Sweetheart Tournaments. He loved interacting with children with special needs, teaching them the game of Bocce. Ziggy also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends Pitch being his favorite game. He loved his grandchildren, Tonya, Adrian (wife Andrea), Ricky (wife Catrina), Michael, Joey, Robert, Kali, Jason and Samantha. He spent much time with them, bringing them to school, basketball and baseball practice, and helping them with their homework. He also had three great grandchildren, Derek, Gianna and Savona, whom he did not have much time with as God called him home. He will always be seen as a Hero in his family's eyes and remembered as a strong spirited man with a big heart.
