Joseph DeNicola
Joseph DeNicola , 90, of Rome, passed away Friday, March 9, 2007 at Stonehedge Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Cuneo, Italy on April 6, 1916, son of the late Elia and Teresa Cavalchino. On June 22, 1941 he married Jennie Pettinelli in Tocco da Casauria, Italy. She passed away December 16, 2000. Mr. DeNicola came to Rome in December 1951. He was employed with Rome Strip Steele from 1956 until his retirement in 1982. After retiring, he traveled throughout the United States and Europe, settling in Cooperstown, NY, until his return to Rome in 2006. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Livia and Phil DAntonio, Rome, Theresa Shirk Makowski, Jacksonville, Fla; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Sandy DeNicola, Visilia, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Melissa and her husband Tracy ORourke, Philip and his wife Elizabeth DAntonio, Charlene Shirk, Joseph and his wife Gina Shirk, Buddy and his wife Vicky Shirk, Lisa and her husband Scott Karle, and John DeNicola; and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jennie and Antonio Pettinelli, Rome, Anna and Anothony Senese, Woodbridge, Conn., and Mary Comforti, Toronto, Canada; several neices and nephews; and his faithful Silky Terrier, Candy.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Johns Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society, P.O. Box 4572, Rome, NY 13442 or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
