Obituary of Katherine Alaimo Raines

Katherine Alaimo Raines Katherine Alaimo Raines, 94, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rome, NY on June 1, 1918, daughter of the late Luigi and Frances Salvaggio Alaimo. Katherine was educated in Rome schools. On March 8, 1942 she married Robert Earl Raines in Rome. He passed away on October 18, 1998. Katherine was a former employee of General Cable, Rome Cable, Rome Air Depot, and H.L. Green Co. She retired in 1983 from Rome Developmental Center as assistant head cook. Katherine was a member of Transfiguration Church, Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center, South Rome Senior Citizen Center, AARP, Civil Service Association of NYS, Christ Child, and a life member of the Polish Home. Surviving are a daughter, Cordellia "Korkie" Urbanik, Rome, and special friend Richard Joseph; a sister-in-law Mary "Mowie" Alaimo, Rome; special nieces and nephews, Marilyn and Norman Lince, Rome, Jerome Jr. and Mary Jo Alaimo, Jamesville, Marilyn Sardina and Frances (Sardina) Eck, both of Utica; five step-grandchildren, Karen Markowicz, Bryan and Mary Ann Urbanik, all of Rome, Ellen and David Olney, Westernville; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step great- great-grandchild, and one to be born in September. She was predeceased by four brothers, Louis, Dominick, John and Jerome Alaimo; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose and Sylvester Sardina, Mary Alaimo and Jaconda Alaimo; and a son-in-law, Stanley Urbanik. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at Transfiguration Church at 10:00 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
