Obituary of Sylvester Ciotti

Sylvester Ciotti Sylvester (Elauadario) Ciotti, 91, of Sherrill -Oneida Castle-Rome, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Syl was born in Italy, on May 11, 1921 son of the late Virgilio and Theresa Cotesta Ciotti. He came to America with his family in 1930 at the age of nine. Syl proudly served his country during World War II in Europe from 1944 to the end of the war. He was with the 35th Infantry Division attached to Gen. Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. Syl was a decorated Army Disabled Veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart, Three Bronze Stars, Oak Leaf Cluster and the Combat Infantry Badge. In his civilian life he will be well remembered as an excellent auto mechanic for General Motors and at Griffiss Air Force Base. Syl was an active member and former commander of several Veterans Organizations. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Genevieve (D'Accurzio) Ciotti ,Utica, Anthony and Patricia (Marcelleta) Ciotti, CA; a sister and brother-in law Mary and Louis Fondario, CA; a brother-in-law Francis Fondario, CA. Syl was predeceased by his wife of twenty five years, Luella (Wilsey) Ciotti, two sisters Margaret (Ciotti) Dunkel and Virginia Fondario, a brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Jane (Norelli) Ciotti. The family wishes to extend a thank you to Syl's comrade in arms, disabled vet, George Pfaff, of Oneida, for being Syl's friend and sometimes caregiver. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. George Pfaff. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc. 218 W. Court St., Rome, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.
