Peggy J. Tosti
Peggy J. Tosti ended her steadfast battle with pain and suffering when she passed away with family members at her side on Sunday, Nov.
4, 2012.
Peggy was born in Beaver Dam, WI on June 16, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Eva (Stanton) LaBounty. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School and worked as a caretaker of the elderly and as a mentor to children at risk.
In 1964 she married Joseph Tosti and their family moved to Rome in 1966. Peggy and Joe soon established Tosti's Steak House where Peggy contributed as greeter, buyer, and bookkeeper. Her ability to make people comfortable was critical to the early success of the business. Customers remember her as fun-loving, yet very conscientious about the quality of the products she served. She will also be fondly remembered for many years of service at the control counter and snack bar of Mohawk Lanes. Where she built a similar rapport with bowlers, young and old alike.
Peggy's other interests included a love of animals - she always had pets of various species. She was an avid contributor to women's causes and to local, state and federal Democratic political candidates.
In addition to her husband of 48 years (which Joseph describes as "the best thing that ever happened to me"), Peggy leaves behind two sons and their spouses, Michael and Marta Boerger, CA, Guy and Francine Iglesias Tosti, Rome; and two daughters, Eva Marie, Rome, and Ava Smoldt, CA. Her eldest son Mark passed away in 2008. Peggy is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Rosemary LaBounty of Madison, WI, and James and Nancy LaBounty, Glendale, AZ.; and a sister-in-law Phyllis (Tosti) Edkins and her husband Neil, of Rush, NY. She was predeceased by brothers Richard and William LaBounty.
Peggy's joy for life lives on in her grandchildren, Corrie Rose Boerger, CA., Sarah and Steven Smoldt of CA., Tyler Tosti and Sophia Iglesias-Tosti of Rome. She had a special relationship with Tyler who provided much care and comfort during her last months and Sophia, whose visits she so looked forward to.
The family extends deep appreciation to the staff of The Colonial Nursing Home for their warm and professional care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-6 p.m.
