Carmela S. Colangelo Carmela S. Colangelo, 80, of Rome, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rome, NY on June 8, 1932, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Froio Stanizzi. Carm was educated in Rome schools. In 1954 she married Bernard J. Colangelo. He passed away November 25, 1995. Carmela retired in 1989 from NYNEX (New York Telephone) where she had worked as a directory assistance operator, supervisor and instructor. Mrs. Colangelo was a former employee of the Rome City School District as a teacher's assistant. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and its Usher Society, and Nocturnal Society. Carm was also a former Church School Teacher. Mrs. Colangelo was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America. Carm had a deep passion for her faith. She cherished time spent with her family. Carm loved to cook, and enjoyed her day trips to various casinos with special friends. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Berine and Jan Colangelo, Rome; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra and Mitchell Evans, and Sandra Smith, all of Rome; six grandchildren, Lee Ann Evans, Eric Evans, Bernie Colangelo Jr., Nicholas Colangelo, Robert Smith Jr. and Steven Smith; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Lynn Evans; and a step- son, Ronald Colangelo, Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are five sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa Mecca, Rose Marie and Anthony Fragapane, Josephine and Robert Janes, all of Rome; Mary and Ronald Symanski, Ballston Spa, NY; Jeanette and Allen Trombley, Ava; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert Smith; a brother, Anthony Stanizzi; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Mecca. The family would like to express a special thank you to all her caretakers, friends, and family. Also to Sister Gemma for her spiritual conversations with Carm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate, PO Box 658 Monroe, NY 10949-0658.
