Caroline N. Izzo
Caroline N. Izzo, 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rome, NY on March 25, 1923, daughter of the late Angelo and Mary Donato Caramella. On January 20, 1939 she married Albert J. Izzo in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away September 23, 1986. Caroline retired from Griffiss Air Force Base. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center.
Caroline was a quiet, gentle woman who loved being with her family. She enjoyed traveling, baking, her rose garden, singing and listening, especially to her son Albert's guitar music. Caroline also loved playing Bingo and cards with her friends at the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Rizzo, Rome; a son, Albert J. Izzo Jr., Utica; seven beloved grandchildren, James Izzo, David Rizzo, Donna Rizzo-Aiello, Joseph Rizzo, James S. Rizzo, Aaron Izzo, and Michael Izzo; nine beloved great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Alyssa, Jenna, Julianna, James III, David, Julia, Erika, and Alexander. Also surviving are a sister Barbara Caramella, Rome; a daughter-in-law, Georgena Izzo, Utica; a brother-in-law Alex Kowalewski, Syracuse; a godchild, Beverly Greco, Whitesboro; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albert; a son, Frank Izzo; granddaughter, Rochelle Izzo; a brother, Pat Caramella; and two sisters, Marie Kowalewski, Amelia Granieri.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ava Dorfman Senior Center or St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
