JAMES J. CATANZARO, SR. James J. Catanzaro, Sr., 88, of Rome Towers, passed away Monday July 2, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born in Rome, NY, on June 25, 1924, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Bommarito Catanzaro. Jim attended Rome Free Academy and Utica College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. On October 15, 1949 he married Jean M. McDonald in St. Peter's Church. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. Jim retired in 1980 from RADC at Griffiss Air Force Base as chief of administration. Surviving besides his beloved wife Jean; are a son and daughter-in- law, James Jr. and Lynne Catanzaro, of Rome; a daughter, Karen A. Catanzaro, of Rome, and her special friend Jeff Unanjst, of Lee Center; cherished grandchildren and spouses James Matthew and Catherine Catanzaro, Zion, IL, and Megan Ashley and Jason Tyler, Hampstead, NC; two great-grandchildren, Connor James Tyler and Caden James Catanzaro. Also surviving are two sisters, Katherine Herman, New Castle, PA, and Fina Harger, Tyngsboro, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre by three brothers, Jasper, Bernard and Frank Catanzaro; and three sisters, Connie Coniglio, Jennie Oliver and Mary West. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Internment in St. Peter's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions are respectfully requested to be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St.
