Obituary of Catherine D. Pugliese

Catherine D. Pugliese Catherine D. Pugliese, 90, of Rome, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Rome Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Rome, NY on February 16, 1922, daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth LaGatta Vaccaro. Catherine was educated in Rome schools. On July 28, 1945, she married James J. Pugliese in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away February 5, 2002. Mrs. Pugliese was a former employee of Griffiss Air Force Base and Rome Manufacturing. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Sam Polizzi; Donna and James Smaldon, all of Rome; four grandchildren, Jim Polizzi, Rome; Brandi and her husband Dominick Muratore, Syracuse; Ashley Smaldon and Jamie Smaldon, both of Rome. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Paul Leonbruno; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Vaccaro and Rose Vaccaro, all of Rome; a brother-in-law, Victor Pugliese, Clinton, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James J. Pugliese Jr., who passed away May 4, 1980; four brothers, John, Paul, Ray, and Michael Vaccaro; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Amadale and Mary Pugliese; Leonard and Jennie Pugliese; Carl and Norena Pugliese; and William and Anne Pugliese. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Bartlett Wing at Rome Memorial Hospital and Drs. Tallandini and Potluri. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St. and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
