Obituary of Welcome L. Carpenter

Welcome L. Carpenter Welcome L. Carpenter, 82, of Rome, lost his battle with Huntington's Disease on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, NY, on May 28, 1929, son of the late Welcome Howard and Caroline Falcone Carpenter. Welcome graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. On November 27, 1965 he married Sara Godwin, in St. John the Baptist Church. Welcome served in the U.S. Air Force, then worked at Griffiss Air Force Base as a computer operator while serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve at Frankfort, N.Y. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and it's Men's Holy Name Society. Welcome was a lifetime member of Leon R. Roberts American Legion, Holland Patent and H.P. Smith Post #24 American Legion, Rome, Past Commander of the Oneida DAV, Ava Dorfman Senior Center and former president of South Rome Senior Center. Surviving besides his wife, Sara, are daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Francis Falvo; two grandchildren, Theresa Falvo and Amanda Falvo, all of Rome; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Philip VonBargen, Morrisonville, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Alida Miller; a nephew Roger A. Miller Jr.; and a brother John Acuri. The family would like to express a special thank you to Rome Memorial Hospital and Colonial Park Nursing Home B Wing for their exceptional loving care. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 10:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc. 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Please omit flowers.
