Lois V. Emeterio
Lois V. Emeterio, born April 20, 1925, went peacefully to the Lord on Sunday evening, August 7, 2011, with her beloved daughter by her bedside at Rome Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit, after a courageous battle with liver disease and a mass tumor. In 2008, she was challenged with life threatening brain tumors and recovered from major brain surgery and several follow-up procedures. Lois always showed lots of courage and was known for her beautiful Kentucky accent, laughter and optimistic view on life. She had a great gift for making people laugh and making the best out of life when faced with challenges.
Lois was born and raised in Falmouth, KY on a farm with her parents and siblings during the Great Depression. She also lived in Covington, KY for several years. She graduated with the class of 1944 from Holmes High School in Covington, KY. She was employed with Western Union for 17 years in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her important role was to teletype important messages during the Wars. She continued a second career with Rome DDSO of Central N.Y. and retired in 1989. She was an active member and CSEA Union representative and served several years of dedicated service to the developmentally disabled population. She was loved by many people at both of her places of employment including clients and co-workers.
Lois loved animals, country music, reading, flowers and especially horses. She always looked forward to the Kentucky Derby and spending time with the family and enjoyed her membership at Vernon Downs Horse Racing. Lois spent many hours with her Indian Ringneck parrot called Charla and the family dog, Reiki, as well as many other pets over the years. She was always feeding the birds, ducks, squirrels and rabbits. She made many trips to Florida over the years due to her love for the beaches and ocean. Lois traveled to Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio over the years to see her family. She also always made time to see her daughter during the early college years by traveling to Florida and Kentucky for special visits.
Lois had a blessed union of marriage for 54 years to the late Joseph V. Emeterio, who she met in Miami Beach, and married on March 7, 1957. They lived there for many years until returning to her husband's home town in Rome. She has now been reunited with him in another dimension called heaven.
Surviving family members are, a daughter, Dr. Charlene E. Emeterio, Rome; a sister, Grace Myers-Schutte, Covington, KY; a niece, Barbara Harmes-Hahn and husband, Nicholas Hahn, Cincinnati, Ohio; several other nieces and nephews and cousins living around Cincinnati, Ohio and Kentucky areas.
