Joseph P. Coniglio Joseph P. Coniglio, 78, of Rome, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at his home with his family at his side. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on November 24, 1931, son of the late Philip and Josephine Lombino Coniglio. Joseph was a graduate of the RFA Class of 1949. Mr. Coniglio was a member of the United States Army. He saw battle in Korea on Pork Chop Hill. Sgt. Coniglio was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the National Defense Service Medal. On September 27, 1958, he married Eleanor Tagliaferri in St. Mary's Church, with Monsignor Aubrey Seiter officiating, a blessed union of 52 years. Joseph retired from the Rome Fire Department with 36 years service. He had strong faith and was a member of St. Mary's-St. Peter's Church. Joseph was also a member of Rome Retired Firefighters Association, Sherrill American Legion, a life member of Rome Elks Club, South Rome Senior Citizens Center, Rome Polish Home and the United Polka League. He was an avid cook, skier, fisherman, and a devoted Yankee fan. Joseph was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. He leaves his loving wife, Eleanor, daughters, Tracy O'Shaughnessy, New York City, and Debra Mondi, New Hartford; his grandchildren, Olivia O'Shaughnessy and Remi Grace O'Shaughnessy, New York City, Frank Joseph Mondi and Ana Mondi, New Hartford. Also surviving are three brothers, Anthony Coniglio, Francis Coniglio, both of Rome, and Ross Coniglio, Erie, Pa.; his special aunt, Angie Gotti, Rome; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Otto and Judy Panara, Rome, and their son, Christopher Brady, California. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, Louis and Teresa Tagliaferri. The family wishes to thank Dr. Eldridge, Oneida Dialysis Center, and Dr. Patrick for their care of Joseph. Also special thanks to Father Hearn for his spiritual guidance and to the Rome Police Department, Rome Fire Department, AmCare staff, and the Eastern Star Home staff, for their kindness shown to the family. Joseph will be remembered for his kindness given to others and his big heart. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. Mary's Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
