Gertrude Ann Fiorini
Gertrude Ann Fiorini, 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility. She was born in Latrobe, Pa. on May 13, 1921, daughter of the late Mario and Concetta Vitale. Gertrude moved to Rome as a child and attended Rome schools. On September 6, 1941, she married Anthony "Tony" Philip Fiorini in St. John the Baptist Church. They enjoyed a blessed union of 68 years until his passing on December 30, 2009. Mrs. Fiorini retired from the former Rome State School. Gertrude loved playing cards with the girls and attending Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Center. She and her late husband, Tony, loved to dance and have good times with their close friends. They were also avid campers. Her children and grandchildren loved spending the weekends at Fish Creek Landing Campground with them.
Surviving are a son and two daughters-in-law, Dave and Cecilia Fiorini, Rome, and Silvia Fiorini, Syracuse; eight grandchildren, David and his wife, Danielle Fiorini, Aaron Fiorini and his fiance, Carrie Stace, Brittany Fiorini and her boyfriend, Nick Antonio, Mark and his wife Michelle Fiorini, Dan and his wife Lori Fiorini, Maria and her husband Mike Gomes, Richard Hoppe and Robert and his wife Katie Hoppe; and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Delores Nigro, Rome, Ninfa Daniel, San Antonio,TX, and Norma Mecca, Syracuse; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in- law, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Tony, a son, Anthony Fiorini Jr., a sister, Connie Tarantino, and a step mother, Bianca Vitalie.
The Fiorini family would like to thank Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility for all their compassion, professionalism and consideration over the years. There are too many names to mention, they are all special people.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., and at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 5858 E. Molloy Road, Syracuse, N.Y. 13211.
