Obituary of Benjamin A. Moore

Benjamin A. Moore Benjamin A. Moore, 69, of Milles Drive, passed away at Stonehedge Nursing Home, on Saturday, July 31, 2010, after a long illness. He was born in Rome, NY, on March 28, 1941, son of the late Carlton and Margaret Agan Moore. He was a part of the Rome Free Academy Class of 1959 and was a cum laude graduate and honor fraternity Lamda Chi Alpha member of Franklin College in Indiana. Ben had worked at Rome Hospital in the lab as a chemical technician and later had a distinguished career for 31 years as a physical scientist at Rome Laboratory at Griffiss Air Force Base, before retiring in 1999. He was the lead national authority on the use of mass spectroscopy for moisture measurement in hermetically sealed microelectronic packages. His work in this field led to an internationally recognized and accepted standard. He received many awards and recognitions for his work, including an award in 1973 for unique and distinguished contributions to the research and development program of the United States Air Force and an accommodation received in 1992 for outstanding support to the United States Air Force and the nation in Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Rome. While his professional career constituted many years of effort and success, his most important job and pride came from his family. If you saw him beaming over his children's accomplishments, or the joy on his face upon the birth of his grandchildren, then you too would have seen this to be true. In 1968, He married Patricia A. DeProspero and they walked through this world together for forty- two years. They created and nurtured three children, Jeffrey Moore, of Westmoreland, Jennifer and Shannon Wells, of Chittenango, and Jason and Tanya Moore, of Taberg; along with two grandchildren, Jared and Kira Moore. He also leaves behind a loving sister, Eva L. Moore, of Long Island; and enjoyed a special relationship with his mother-in-law, Patricia M. DeProspero, Rome; as well as a large extended family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
