Obituary of Sophie E. Voci

Sophie E. Voci Sophie E. Voci, 91, formerly of Rome, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at The Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant, MI. She had been living in Michigan since 2000. Sophie was the oldest daughter of Eva (Drapala) and Joseph Pycior, born on November 19, 1916 in Rome, NY. Until 2000, she lived her entire life in Rome. On October 1, 1938, she married Anthony F. Voci in Transfiguration Church. He passed away June 8, 2000. They made their home on First Street and then later in the Town of Floyd. Sophie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, care giver, grandmother and an outstanding cook. After raising her family, she worked at the Rome Developmental Center.She is survived by her sister, Helen Bosak, of Rome; and her two sons, Rocco and his wife, Frances, Canadian Lakes, MI, and Ronald and his wife, Barbara, Moore, OK. There are four grandsons: Christopher (Jae-Jae Spoon) Voci, Iowa City, IA; Kristin (Jamie) Voci, Oklahoma City; Richard (Julie Keith) Voci, Portage, MI; Steven (Julie) Voci, Charlevoix, MI; two granddaughters, Kim (Jeffrey) Sweeden, Stillwater, OK; Kathy (Daryl) Huff, Oklahoma City; and six great grandchildren, Callie and Clayton Huff, Haley Sweeden, Anthony and Olivia Voci in Oklahoma; and Annaliese Voci in Michigan. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Anthony, her sister, Bronislawa (Betty) Zaleski, and brothers, Joseph, John, Gregory (Eddie), Peter and Zenon (Frankie) Pycior.Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., on Friday from 6-8 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Bishop Hills Elder Care Community, 4951 Eleven Mile Road, Rockford, MI 49341, where Sophie found friendship and loving care for eight years, or to Hospice of Central Michigan, 2597 S. Meridian Road, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858, where Sophie spent her last days in comfort and tender care.
