My grandfather was a remarkable man—a man who loved deeply and cared for others, even into his old age. He never stopped being a family man, and he never stopped showing love. It’s always hard when someone we cherish passes, because what we miss is more than just the person—we miss their presence, the image of who they were, the essence they left behind. Saying goodbye doesn’t make letting go any easier, especially when that person has meant so much.
To me, my grandfather wasn’t just a grandfather. In many ways, he was a father figure, especially during times when I didn’t know my own father well. He was always there for me and my mother, a constant source of strength and love. I’ll never forget the kindness, the warmth, and the laughter he brought into our lives. Those are the things I’ll hold onto forever—the memories of who he was and what he stood for.
It’s painful because it makes saying goodbye that much harder. I will miss him always, but I will be forever grateful for the privilege of carrying his last name, a living reminder of his legacy. Grandpa, thank you for the time you spent with us. Thank you for your love. And thank you for the roots you established, for showing me what it means to be a Hugo. I am and always will be eternally grateful my Grandfather Eric Hugo the time I was blessed to have shared with him.

Eric is my beloved brother. He loved the Mets and I love the Yankees. Every time we got together we would cut each other up about whose team was the best lol. My fondest memories of him are when he bought me my first bouquet of roses for my birthday (can’t remember which one) and Elton John’s Yellow Brick Road album because I was young and couldn’t buy it myself…I wore it out!! He had a heart of gold. He was a very private person and loved his family to the moon and back. I love and miss you brother ❤️
