Vincenza A. Calcara
1930 – 2024
Vincenza A. Calcara, 94, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday June 20, 2024, at Oneida Health Rehabilitation & Extended Care, with her loving family at her side. She was born in the Provence of Agrigento, Sicily, on June 08, 1930, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria Lucia Casola. On January 19, 1947, Vincenza was united in marriage to Antonio Calcara, in Sicily. He passed away on January 08, 1984. She retired as a seamstress for Joseph and Feiss in Utica, N.Y., where she worked from 1962 to 1992.
Vincenza was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was an avid knitter and loved to sew.
Surviving are four sons; Salvatore (Janet) Calcara, of Maryland, Vincenzo (Carol) Calcara, of Sherrill, Antonio (Barbara) Calcara, of Monaca, PA, and Joseph Calcara of Rome, two daughters; Mary Jane (John) Thibault, of Rome, and Anita (Mark) Sutter, of Rome, a sister, Lila Scaturro, of Sicily, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as four nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 210 East Dominick Street, Rome, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, on Monday June 24, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Private entombment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery & Mausoleum, Champlin Avenue, Utica, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vincenza’s name to the Marion Guild of St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick Street, Rome, N.Y. 13440.
