Betty A. George
1927 – 2024
Betty A. George, 96, formerly of Rome, passed away on Thursday May 02, 2024, at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Rochester, N.Y. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on November 14, 1927, daughter of the late Jenkins and Frances Chaffee James. Betty was educated in Rome schools and was very proud that she received her Associates degree from Mohawk Valley Community College at the age of 55. On July 26, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth LeRoy George in St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden. He passed away on February 02, 2015. Betty retired as a Pollster, from Zogby International in Utica, N.Y.
Betty was a member of Rome First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Ft. Stanwix Chapter, where she enjoyed an honorary membership, the Heritage Doll Club of Central New York, and the Wanakena chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving is a son, David (Theresa) George, of Clinton, N.Y. two daughters; Paula (John) Attwell of Phelps, N.Y. and Diane (Mark) Mather, of Webster, N.Y. , seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jenkins and Frances James, two sons; Kenneth Albert George, and John Paul George, and three brothers; Harold, Howard, and Carlton James.
Funeral Services will be held at Rome First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George Street in Rome, on Friday May 17, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at Church following the service. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s name, can be made to the Humane Society of Rome Inc.; PO Box 4572, Rome, N.Y. 13442-4572.
