Jean M. Catanzaro
1927 – 2024
Jean M. Catanzaro, 96, of Rome, entered into eternal life with the Lord on Wednesday February 14, 2024, at Rome Health, after a long illness. She was born in Wilkes Barre, PA, on August 28, 1927, daughter of the late Felix J. and Anna E. Malone McDonald. Jean graduated from Rome Free Academy. On October 15, 1949, she married James J. Catanzaro, Sr., in St. Peter’s Church. He passed away on July 02, 2012. Jean retired from Rome Hospital in 1978. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Lynne Catanzaro, and a daughter, Karen A. Catanzaro and special friend, Jeff Unangst; cherished grandchildren and spouses, James Matthew and Catherine Catanzaro, Zion IL, and Megan Ashley, of Raleigh N.C., four great-grandchildren; Connor, Caden, Ryan, and Katie Jean, as well as several nieces and nephews, to include a special niece, Diana Sadlon. Jean also leaves behind her best friend, Pearl Scott. She was predeceased by her parents, Felix and Anna McDonald, her husband James Catanzaro Sr., and a brother, Gerald McDonald.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of the Rome Health Care Facility Staff, for their kindness and compassion shown toward Jean during her time as a resident. The family would also like to acknowledge the many friends Jean made at the facility, whom she loved playing cards and attending activities with. Jean was proud to be a 50 year survivor of Breast Cancer, as well as a member of “Nettie’s Guys & Gals” Relay for Life Team.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s name are respectfully requested to be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday February 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, N.Y., with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
