Anna M. Anania
1933 – 2024
Anna M. Anania, 90, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday January 03, 2024, at Oneida Extended Healthcare. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on December 29, 1933, daughter of the late Natale and Elisabetta Bonelli Filoso. Anna attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy with honors. On May 02, 1953, she married Nicholas M. Anania, Sr., at St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away on January 17, 1979. She retired from NYSSD as a Building Service Aide. Anna was formerly employed at Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center in Utica, Strough Junior High School, as a cafeteria monitor and at Big Daddy’s Sub Shop in Rome.
Anna was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, CSEA, Runaway Youth and Homeless Program, Literacy Volunteers, Hospice Care, Inc., Crises Pregnancy Center,
Surviving are three sons, Mark (Lorraine) Anania, of Westmoreland, Nicholas M. (Leith) Anania, Jr., of Georgia, and Michael (Debbie) Anania of Westernville, grandchildren; Mark, Eric and Scott Anania, Mike, Matt and Mark Vaccaro, Nichole Anania Jenkins, Chase Anania, Nolan Davenport and Michael Anania II, and thirteen great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Michael Vaccaro, of Rome, and several nieces, nephews and two special friends, Rose Derenda- Allen and Nick Strange. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas M. Anania, Sr., a son, David C. Anania, a daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Vaccaro, two brothers, Gaetano and Louie Filoso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday January 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul. F. Angelicchio officiating. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, on Tuesday January 09, 2024 from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Anna’s name to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central New York, 207 N. George St., Rome, N.Y. 13440.
