I was saddened to read of Tony's passing. I met "Mr. Abone" in high school when I was one of Joe's teammates at RFA and on Smith Post. Mr. & Mrs. Abone were always there supporting Joe...and later Tony Jr.. After moving back to Rome I was fortunate enough to interact with Tony as an adult and know him on that level. His impact on a generation of baseball players in Rome was profound and their respect for him immense. Rome will be the worse off for his loss. We will be out of town for calling hours but please know our hearts and prayers are with the family.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Coach Abone. He was a fierce competitor from the Smith Post 24 dugout and managed his teams with a deep passion. The Smith Post tradition still carries on today due to the foundation that he built over his long tenure as team manager with his son Tony Jr at his side as his head coach. I will always cherish the many memorable, hard fought games that we played against each other for nearly 20 years. In my opinion, there was no better game in American Legion Baseball each summer then when Smith Post 24 and Whitestown Post 1113 faced each other on the diamond, whether it was the first game of the season or in the District 5 playoffs. My sincere condolences to the entire Abone family.

Aunt Ro, Joey, Tony, and the whole family. I'm so sad to hear of Uncle Tony's passing. I'm so glad we were able to see him and Aunt Ro last summer. We have so nany great and funny memories growing up. One of my favorites is when he'd sit with all of us kids in Nonni's living room and tell us stories. Another is the Christmas he made name tags for all of us but we had to wear someone else's just to tease Nonni. I'm sorry we can't be there in person to say goodbye but Don, the kids, and I are sending our love and prayers.
