Obituary of Antoinette M Carriero
Antoinette M. Carriero, 92, of Rome, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Tuesday February 21, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on April 9, 1930, and lived her entire life in Rome at her childhood home. Antoinette was one of five children born to the late Rosamaria (Luongo) and Salvatore Carriero. She graduated from Rome Free Academy and worked many years as a Supply Clerk at the former Griffiss Air Force Base until her retirement. Antoinette also worked part-time for many years at the ticket booths of the Strand and Capital Theaters.
Antoinette was quite an expert at knitting and crocheting, even well into her later years, crafting afghans and baby outfits for her nieces and nephews, and their children as well. She also loved to bake, and share, her pies, breads, and cookies, and especially pizzelles, as well as cook stuffed cabbage rolls, lasagna, and other goodies. Antoinette loved to bowl and she was a member of “The Gals Club.” She also was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She took great pride in talking about her nieces and nephews and their extended families, and loved buying them all presents.
Antoinette is survived by her sister, Lucia Carriero, who lovingly cared for Antoinette in her later years. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Rosemary (Jon) Valente, Deborah (John) Ryan, James (Marta) Carriero, Mary (Bill) Halpin, a niece-in-law, Johanna Carriero, and numerous great, and great-great nieces and nephews. Antoinette also leaves behind her special friend, Mary Costello. She was predeceased by her parents, Salvatore and Rosamaria Carriero, her sister, Mary Carriero, two brothers and their spouses, John (Betty) Carriero, and Michael (Johanna) Carriero, and her nephew, Salvatore Carriero.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care, kindness, and compassion shown towards Antoinette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 East Dominick Street, Rome, with the Rev. Paul F.
