Obituary of Walter Earl Oliver
Walter E. Oliver, 71, of Rome, passed away on Sunday February 19, 2023 at Rome Health. He was born in Utica, NY, on March 23, 1951, son of the late Ernest H. Sr. and Elizabeth Bowes Oliver. Walter was educated in Utica schools. In March 1976, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Guiliano. Walter and “Gert”, as he lovingly called her, celebrated 39 years of marriage until she passed in 2015.
Walter was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was employed at Revere in Rome, N.Y. for many years before moving to Orion Bus Industries in Oriskany, N.Y., until his retirement. Walter was an avid golfer, bowler, and Cleveland Browns fan. He also loved to watch and follow NASCAR.
Surviving is a daughter, Jessica Oliver, and a son, Travis Oliver, a sister and brother-in-law, Wendi and Joe Mekus, a grandson, Jude Oliver, a sister-in-law, Patricia Johnson, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Cindy Guiliano, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends, Pat Kotary and family, and Kathleen LaGreco. He was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Ernie Sr. and Jennie Oliver, his stepfather, and mother, Paul and Elizabeth Swancott, a brother, Ernie Oliver Jr., a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rosario (Sal) and Pauline Guiliano, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Ida Guiliano, and a brother-in-law, Russ Johnson, Sr., and his best friends, Ben Kelly and Buck Kotary.
A private burial in the spring will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, in Rome.
