Obituary of Mary Alaimo
Mary “Mowie” Alaimo, 98, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Rome Health. She was born in Rome, NY, on August 2, 1924, daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Bova Costello. Mowie attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. On October 21, 1950 she was married to Jerome “Gilo” Alaimo in St. John the Baptist Church. He passed away on July 28, 2012. Mowie retired from Rite Aid Drug Store after more than 40 Years working in various pharmacies. She was a life-long New York Yankees fan. Mowie was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Transfiguration Church, South Rome Senior Citizens Center Center and the YMCA.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Norman Lince, Rome, NY, and son and daughter-in-law, Jerome and Mary Jo Alaimo of Jamesville, NY; two grandsons: Peter and Thomas Alaimo. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews, including Shirley Lanzi, Cordellia Urbanik both of Rome and her god-children. She is predeceased by her husband, Jerome, sisters; Eva Comis, Antonia Vergalito, brothers; Gus and Anthony Storace, Frank, Lawrence and Michael Costello.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00am, at St. John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass. The family respectfully requests that a mask be worn. Private burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mowie’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
