Debra M. Smith Debra M. Smith, 56, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the home of her parents with her family by her side after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Rome, NY on June 4, 1956, a daughter of Howard and Patricia Rossi Smith. Debra was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, class of 1974. She retired as a medical secretary from St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford. Debra was of the Catholic faith and was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing bingo. Surviving besides her parents, Howard "Dutch" and Pat Smith; are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Christine and James Malone, and Linda Smith, all of Rome; twin brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Linda Smith, Taberg, Michael and Peggy Smith, Rome. Also surviving are a nephew, Colin Smith, Rome; and several aunts, an uncle, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Michael and Myrtle Rossi; and paternal grandparents George and Maude Smith. The family would like express a special thank you to Dr. Sheila Lemke and the girls at Oneida Oncology. A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oneida Oncology, care of Debby Clark, 603 Seneca St., Oneida, NY 13421, with checks payable to Laurie's Legacy. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St.
