Daniel J. Montopoli Daniel J. Montopoli, 85, of Rome, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care in New Hartford with his loving family by his side. He was born in Rome, NY, on March 18, 1932, a son of the late Mario E. and Julia G. (DeMarco) Montopoli. Dan was raised and educated in Rome where he graduated from Rome Free Academy and was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. At one time Mr. Montopoli held a position with Griffiss Air Force Base; he later accepted a position with Great American Grocery Store where he worked for over seventeen years. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of the Rome American Legion, H. Smith Post. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Dominick and Helen Montopoli of Rome; a nephew, Dean Montopoli and his companion, Carmel; and a niece, Karen Rondeau all of Rome; a great-niece Gianna; and a great-nephew Austin. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred "Shoey" Montopoli. In keeping with Dan's wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc. 7751 Merrick Road.
